The Impact of Gas Prices on Travel decisions in Our Community

For anybody who wants to know about the impact of gas prices has on people’s traveling choices, this story might interest you.

The gas prices have significantly effected people’s decisions when they travel in my community. According to Erik Sherman from Forbes published May 5, 2025 “gas prices are on the rise or down, depending on how you measure” stated, “…it seems that gas is generally much more expensive than it has ever been in the past.” Since gas prices have increased people in my community are having to take shorter trips, some people have to cancel or postpone their trip because of the cost of gas.

Because of the rise in gas prices some people have to make the choice of sacrificing not going on long distance family vacations or travel to see friend or relatives for the summer. Due to not being able to afford the gas that is needed, and to save money to take care of their families, if they have low income.

Gas prices impact people’s travel choices in my community are when they have to decide of whether or not to travel. High gas prices have led to them being less confident in knowing if they would be able to afford to travel. According to Erik Sherman from Forbes published May 5, 2025 “Gas prices are on the rise or down, depending on how you measure” stated, “it can be a significant expense, and median household income has sharply trailed inflation for the last 25 years.”

The gas prices have also had an effect on the local people’s traveling decisions when going on vacation. Which results in them not being able to travel as much as they would like. Because a lot of like to take their cars and drive so they can take their RV’S to where they want to go on vacation and they cannot do very much with the high gas prices. According to Karlyn Bowman from Forbes published Jun 4, 2025 “The economy, summer plans, and The Polls” stated “of those planning to take a summer vacation, 89% said they would be doing so by road/car, Americans’ most familiar mode of transportation.”

The effect high gas prices have on peoples traveling choices in my area is that it makes them be careful how much money they spend while traveling. By cutting out non-essential expenses such as souvenirs, entertainment, personal care products, and eating in restaurants to make sure they have enough money to pay for gas, especially at this time of year.  According to Robert Rapier from Forbes published Feb 23, 2025 “Why we have summer gasoline blends- and why they matter” explained that every summer, drivers in the U.S. experience frustration because of the increasing gas prices, but what people don’t know it is the switch to summer gasoline blends.

It has also impacted the people’s traveling decisions by them looking for opportunities offered by gas stations. According to Marcus Dane from Millennial Magazine published Feb 25, 2025 “Are gas savings possible in 2025? What you need to know about fuel prices” stated, “gas stations have partnered to ensure cashback opportunities for shoppers.” A lot of people in my community have turned to these resources because it saves them money which gives them more for money food and other expenses while traveling.
